About the speaker Kristian Argyridou–Christou
Mrs. Kristian Christou studied architecture in Romania and was the first female architect in Limassol.
Now retired, she was professionally active from 1975 till 2015. She specialized in the conservation and restoration of historically important buildings, including houses, shops, warehouses and industrial buildings, converting their use to cultural, exhibition, educational and entertainment spaces.
She has also been an influential member of groups promoting the protection and conservation of cultural heritage. She served as a member of the Cyprus Planning Council for three terms, during which they established and applied, for the the first time in 1990, Planning Regulations in Cyprus.
She served as an elected member of the Limassol Municipal Council from 1996 to 2006 and held the presidency of the Municipal Planning Committee. She has published articles on planning, architecture and development, environmental issues, social issues, the women’s movement and on people who have influenced her. Some of her writings are included in her book ( ΛΕΜΕΣΟΣ Η ΘΑΛΑΣΣΑ ΚΑΙ Η ΠΑΠΑΡΟΥΝΑ ) that was published in 2016.
